Buffalo Unveils World’s Fastest Blu-Ray Writer

26 July 2008 By Ankit Duseja

buffalo_1 Blu-Ray’s Technology is being improved while the prices of both BD’s & Blu-Ray writer are getting cheaper day by day. Buffalo introduced the World’s Fastest Blu Ray writer. It has a blazing writing speed of burning BD’s at 8x on single-layer BD-R media only while DVD±R can be written up to a maximum speed of 16x, 2x for dual-layer BD-R, BD-RE and 48x/24x for CD-R/RW.

Both types internal and external will be available. The drives are SATA based and the external one is featuring a USB 2.0 and will packed with Cyberlink’s PowerDVD 7 suite. The drives are based on Panasonic’s SW-5584 BD burner. The drives’ internal buffer is 8MB, which is sufficient and can prevent buffer under-run errors.

However, there is one glitch in the external version, it can only deliver the 8x speed when it is connected through eSATA as USB 2.0 cant handle the 8x mark. Else it will work at 6.5x that too using a special function which Buffalo described as ‘turbo USB’.

The drives will be available from starting of next month in Japan with a price tag of $380 for internal and $440 for the external. As the technology is being improved continuously this “World’s Fastest” tag would not remain with Buffalo for much time.
