A new development has been made in the evaluation of Blu-Ray media by which the capacities of BR discs can be increased from 25 GB per layer to 33.4 GB per layer, though there were previous reports of BR capacity increase of upto 50GB per layer but that required change of current optical reading technologies, however this new i-MLSE (Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation) evaluation index is able to read 33.4 GB per layer without changing the existing optical laser reader heads in the Blu-Ray players.
Sony is planning to switch to i-MLSE, if everything goes well soon we will seeing new higher capacities Blu-Ray discs.

I wonder how much the blu-ray disc capacities are going to increase, what's their limit?
I agree with udit, the blu-ray is going to own the disc market, the cd/dvd will vanish like the floppy did.
Nice thread!
About the blu-ray let's say that the blu-ray is the USB and the cd/dvd is the floopy disc. So the blu-ray will dominate and be on the top. And many manufacturer will have a plan to improve more than the blu-ray
This is great news for me as blue-ray disks can innovate the gaming and filming industry. But still the cost of this technology is somewhat expensive. It may take sometime to make them available for all the people. Technology is advancing day by day.
