Previously we shared a manual method of rooting and unrooting Samsung Galaxy S, now TGA_Gunnman from XDA developers has developed an easy to use software program that does the job automatically. I've given it a try using the latest 2.1 I9000DDJG4 firmware and it is working good.

Root/Unroot Galaxy S Android 2.1

Download this program
Download Microsoft .Net framework 4

Enable USB Debugging by going to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development and check it.
Run the program and click on appropriate button for rooting your firmware, this will push the update.zip to the phone's root and the phone will boot, now select update.zip using the volume buttons and press Home button.

Congratulations you have just rooted your Galaxy S.

compatibility:

Android 2.1 - any version.

Android 2.2 xxjp1 and xxjp2, do not try this software on firmware xxjp3.
