Firefox 3.0.1 Update can Cause Add-on Problems

Firefox released a security update on 16th July 2008. This is the first update ever released for Firefox 3 thus it has caused some problems with the add-on’s. This updated version is known as Firefox 3.0.1 and includes some security fixes for Firefox 3 but when the developers were rushing for writing the plugin’s for Firefox 3, some of them missed out the star (*) in the sub-version field. Instead they wrote 3.0.0 or simply 3.0 which is causing this add-on’s incompatibility.

Auto Shutdown PC after download completes in Firefox!

Firefox has got a good inbuilt download manager but it still lacks many features that are offered by commercial download managers. One of those missing features is “Auto Shutdown after Download Completion”.

Firefox plugin “Auto Shutdown - InBasic” comes in role here. It simply shutdowns your computer when all the downloads running in Firefox are completed. It is a useful plugin and it gets handy when you are in hurry of leaving your system but you are stuck waiting for the download to get over.

WordPress Launches Blogging App for iPhone

WordPress has released the expected iPhone app this morning. It allow users of WordPress.com and the WordPress self hosted blogs to blog directly from their iPhone. The other blogging app released today is TypePad. These applications make mobile blogging a whole lot easier. Also live blogging can be done via these apps without any hitch. WordPress posted a video on their new iPhone blog featuring the cool things you can do with the “WordPress for iPhone” app.

Apple Rolls Out iTunes 7.7 & iPhone 2.0

The iPhone 2.0 firmware is finally out with new iTunes. Not only it features the new app store but a whole lot of things are there. Those who have already bought an iPhone (1st generation) and are not willing to buy a new one (iPhone 3G) can still make out much from their existing iPhone/iPod Touch.

The iTunes Store possess both free and paid applications featuring Games to Productivity apps. Major socializing groups like Facebook, MySpace have already rolled out their app for iPhone. You can send messages, view profiles, chat with friends via facebook app directly from your iPhone/iPod Touch. NYTimes also rolled an application for their daily newsletter.

Microsoft Releases Vista Service Pack 1

Finally the first Service Pack for Windows Vista has been released by Microsoft targeting the loopholes in the OS released previously, the SP1 for Vista will include several security fixes, patches to avoid incompatibility issues, performance upgrades which are long awaited by the users and hopefully this SP1 update will increase the Vista’s performance( i have seen it crawling even on above avg machine with 2 GB RAM). Researchers Developed Facial Expression Recognition Software

Researchers have developed an advanced algorithm which is capable of processing 30 images per second to recognize a persons facial expressions and categorizes them in any of the six prototypes facial expressions like anger, fear, disgust, happiness, sadness and surprise. Though the software is still in the prototype phase but it can still be used on a desktop computer or laptop, the software is also capable of recognizing facial expressions in video sequences in realistic situations.
