How to Create 3D Image from 2D Images

29 July 2011 By Varun

3D is the latest in-thing in the tech world. Everything from handheld consoles to LCD TVs and set-top boxes are moving towards 3D. As a result, many of us want to capture a 3D image ourselves but it requires a 3D-enabled camera which is a rarity for most of us. Luckily now we can capture a 3D image even from our digital camera, webcam, and even from our phone’s camera.

Red Cyan 3D Camera is a software that uses two 2D images to convert them into a single 3D image. It requires two identical webcams to achieve its target. You simply need to put both cameras 4” apart, launch the software and click the image. When you setup the cameras, make sure that focus is good and click both images from same angle. This may sound a bit difficult to do, but you will get used to it.

If you do not have two similar webcams then you can also use your mobile phone or any other digital camera. All you need to do is click two images with similar camera angle and 4” gap between the two camera shots. Launch Red Cyan 3D Camera and hit “Add Manually”, add both images and hit “OK”. Wait until software works its magic.

You can view your 3D image via Red Cyan 3D Glass. At the moment, this software only supports 3D images but if things goes well then developer can even embed 3D video recording.
