Download Microsoft Fix to Extend Laptop Battery Life

24 July 2011 By Sourojit

Laptop’s battery life comes into concern whenever we are working away from power sources. By default power consumption in Windows is not optimized and hence the battery life is very short and may even get over before expected. So when running on battery the power profile must be configured exactly according to our consumption needs. Nowadays most of the laptop manufacturers provide software to manage various power profiles. But those who do not have this utility can do it from Windows power settings. These settings can be accessed from the control panel or the battery icon. Here the user has to change numerous settings to optimize the battery usage.

Microsoft has released a fix for Windows that improves the power usage automatically. This is done by altering many previous default power settings of Windows. Changes are made to following problems in default power profile.

  • Period of time before the computer goes to sleep is set too long.
  • Screen saver is used instead of setting the computer to enter sleep mode.
  • Display brightness is set too high.
  • Power plan is not set to the most efficient power plan.
  • Wireless adaptor in not optimized for power saving.
  • Minimum processor state is set too high.

This is a very handy fix provided by Microsoft. While installing this fix you are provided with options to directly install it on your computer or make a portable installation that can be used on other systems also.
