Download Android 2.3 for Galaxy S

The latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update has been leaked on the Internet, however this is not the final built of the Android 2.3 OS but it is working fine and is only for the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 users. The last official built available for Galaxy S was the Android 2.2 via Kies, so if you want to taste the Android 2.3 OS early, hit the download link given below.

How to Install Android 2.3 on Galaxy S

Make sure you read this Upgrade Firmware via Odin tutorial.
Download latest ODIN and .pit files from here
Extract the downloaded 2.3 firmware files
In the PIT section use this s1_odin_20100803.pit
In the PDA section of ODIN use CODE_I9000XWJV1_CL31216_REV03_user_mid_noship.tar.md5
In the Phone section use MODEM_I9000XXJVE.tar.md5
In the CSC section use GT-I9000-MULTI-CSC-OXXJV1.tar.md5
Follow this tutorial from step 3 and skip to step 6 and click start
Congratulations, you’ve just upgraded your Galaxy S to Android 2.3

Please note that the upgrade method is same, you just need to make sure you place the 2.3 firmware files as given above in their correct corresponding location for ODIN upgrade to work.

After this firmware, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, I have not 3G and problem with live tv from internet!!!

For 3G to work, you have to re-enter your APN (Access Point Name) and settings for your mobile provider.
You can find these on the internet, or take it back to the shop where you bought it, or call customer service, and they can tell you.
Not hard to do

HI, I am not able to upgrade using the method mentioned above. Some of my friend told me that to upgrade using above technique I have to root my phone first. Kindly confirm if rooting is required befor upgrading to android 2.3.
I am using android 2.2 (on galaxy S 19000).
