Get 720p 30fps Video, Continuous Auto Focus & Uncompressed Images From Nokia N8 Camera

7 October 2010 By Varun

N8 is a high end phone from Nokia which sports some amazing camera specs. To start with, N8 has a whooping 12MP camera, along with Carl Zeiss Optics, 1/1.83” sensor, and ND filter. It has also got the common features like auto-focus, geo-tagging, face detection, smile detection, and Xenon flash, and yes, the camera has a resolution of 4000×3000 pixels with capability of recording 720p video @25fps.

HyperX, a well known hacker for Symbian community, was not satisfied with the performance of N8’s camera so he worked out on N8’s camera and tweaked it to provide 720p videos with 30fps, a noticeable improvement over 25fps, whereas, still images seen some phenomenal improvement, and hacked N8 can snap 11MB images, rather than regular 2MB. That’s not all, this hack can also add the option of continuous auto-focus which will further improve the video quality.

Another good news about this hack is that it does not require flashing a new firmware, making it easy-to-use. HyperX has not announced any release date for this hack, but expect it soon as the video results looked quite finished.

I will definitively choose Samsung Galaxy S I9000 because of its OS (Android) and 4″ super AMOLED screen. But, if you are a “camera person” then better go for N8.
