Tutorial: How to Hack PSP 3004 [Latest PSP SLIM Hacking Guide]
After a long wait I finally decided to hack my PSP 3004 with custom firmware to enable the homebrew goodness, If you have been waiting for easy beginner’s guide on how to soft mod PSP 3004, then here is a way to go, I will be providing you a easy step by step tutorial/guide to hack the PSP 3004 with custom firmware that will allow you to run homebrew applications, emulators, ISO/CSO backup of games that will increase your PSP experience manifold.
Step by step guide to hack PSP 3004
Pre requirements and getting ready
- PSP 3004 and USB data cable
- Full Charge your PSP battery
- You must have PSP firmware less than or 5.03, if you have higher firmware, then you are out of luck as there is no way to downgrade firmware as of now.
- Original Sony Pro Duo memory stick or Sandisk Pro Duo memory stick, I used Sandisk 8 GB Pro Duo
Important Note: If you don’t have original Pro Duo card for your PSP, I recommend not to use my tutorial, as chances of data corruption and reading errors while hacking might brick your PSP 3004 and currently there is no way to unbrick PSP 3004.
How to check if your Pro Duo is original:
Go to memory stick, press Triangle button on your PSP, then go to Information, press X, if MagicGate Supported, then you have the original Pro Duo card, if its MagicGate: Unknown or anything else, 100% chance is that you have a fake memory stick Pro Duo.
- Lets begin the PSP 3004 Hack : Upgrade Firmware to 5.03 (STEP 1)
First you have to upgrade your PSP firmware to 5.03, Download this 5.03 Firmware file, connect your PSP to PC in USB mode, Double click on downloaded exe file. It will copy firmware data EBOOT.PBP on your PSP, Now go to GAME -> Memory stick -> Firmware 5.03 -> Press X , this will upgrade the firmware to original 5.03 firmware in a couple of minutes.
- PSP 3004 Hacking Tutorial: Installing ChickHEN R2 (STEP 2)
Download ChickHEN R2, extract to PSP 3000 folder on desktop and double click on EZ503HenSLIMversion.exe, it will bring up this
Connect your PSP and click Install, It will copy necessary files to your PSP
Press O to disconnect from USB mode and go to PHOTO -> Memory stick->ChickHEN -> Press X -> PSP will boot in ChickHEN R2 mode, you can verify this by going to System-> System Information , it will show ChickHEN 5.03 now
- PSP SLIM Hacking Tutorial: Install 5.03GEN-a Custom Firmware (STEP 3)
Once you have ChickHEN 5.03 now you can go forward and install 5.03GEN-a, which will allow you to run ISO/CSO image backups of your PSP games on PSP 3004.
Download PSP 5.03 Custom firmware
Extract the files to PSP 3000 folder on desktop
Double click on Launch-Me.exe, Enter the letter of your PSP memory card, In mine it was E, click START.
Files will be copied on your PSP, wait 20 seconds. Disconnect from USB mode, go to Game -> Memory card -> INSTALLER LOADER -> Press L or R Trigger -> Press O to boot in custom firmware
Congrats, You have successfully hacked your PSP 3004.
Try not to restart or shut down your PSP, you will be saving a lot of trouble
Note: This hack will be gone once you restart your PSP, so keep your PSP in suspend/standby mode.
Whats Next:
Read these tutorials: How to Play ISO/CSO Games on PSP 3000 and How to Backup PSP UMD Games
If you restart/shutdown your PSP, you have to repeat from STEP 2 again. This might be painful till eternity if you did not follow correctly.
Remove the h.bin and egghund.bin manually
use EZ503HenSLIMversion.exe to copy the files to your PSP again(see Step 2), shut down your PSP and Start it again, as standby won’t work, Now go to PHOTOS and wait for 5 seconds, Press X, ChickHEN should load up, if its not then try again. I got it working again after some 20 tries.
Now follow Step 2 for CFW, but without pressing L or R trigger just press O button and it will load custom firmware for you. You just revived your PSP with CFW
ChickHEN R2 not loading: Try these steps, only once
- Format your original memory card, fake ones won’t work properly
- Restore to Default settings
- Check if ‘UMD Auto-Start and UMD Cache’ are set to off
- Remove your Pro Duo card and Insert again
- Restart your PSP
Follow STEP 2 again, wait for 5 seconds before going in chickHEN images and Just keep trying this until it works.
This guide can be used to hack PSP 3000 all versions and PSP 2000 having TA-088v3 motherboard with firmware version 5.03
I begin this hack with PSP 3004 firmware 5.01on Windows XP SP3.
Let me know if you face any problems.

Hacking and cracking are pretty much similar in this case, as you can also see it as a tutorial for PSP 3000 crack to play/run homebrew games/application
PSP 3000 and Nintento Wii are two different products and each has its own fan following and both are selling quite good. If you need personal entertainment, go for PSP 3000, if you need something that you can enjoy with your family go for a Wii.

Bricking means your PSP will be rendered useless like a brick and you have to take it to Sony service center.

Just slide the PSP power button upwards and hold it there for a few seconds, it will shut down itself, turn it on again. To standby just do a quick slide upwards.

Ya, you should keep trying, just remember to restart and remove memory stick before each try. It is hit and trial method. I have been able to boot into ChickHen R2 after 20 tries during first time, 3 tries second time, 7 tries 3rd time, there is no perfect way, you have to try again and again.. and do read the second half of tutorial again.

NEON4 wait for a few seconds before goin to PHOTOS and dont select anything just go on the last pic below the roasted eggs then u see some lines and the psp reboots and remember u have to keep doing it again and again i got it done in about 15 tries and never switch off ur psp its really painfull to install it if it goes again.TIP:always keep the installations file in ur psp as a back up and doing so u do not have to connect ur psp to the computer again
wait a second, you’re telling me it does not switch off? it always does, i just open the chikhen folder and after a few seconds it crushes, but wait… you managed point about keeping instalation files of chick hen in my psp folder, not on the desktop so have i to put it in my memory card?

go to photos select the hen folder and go to the last pic and dont press x wait for a few seconds if ur psp get the lines like bars then it will reboot other wise keep trin look at me man i hacked my psp yesterday just keep tryin

Read the part of tutorial after “Remove the h.bin and egghund.bin manually”
try these steps to load chickHEN quickly:
Remove memory card and insert again before each try
Shut down and restart your psp manually again before going to chickHEN folder
Before going into chickHEN give it 3-4 seconds before pressing X
And yes do not press X once you are in ChickHEN images, wait for it to load, you can try toggling up and down in the images though.
and if you guys got any sure shot method to load chickHEN plz share with us.
Tricks to load chickHEN R2:
I’ve been able to load chickHEN upto 5-6 times now, everytime its a different approach, only things common to my approach are :
removal of pro duo card
shut down of psp – (this is because chickHEN loads into PSP RAM and after restart it gets clear, system low memory error will not show up)
and waiting for 3-4 seconds before going into chickHEN
and then Press X just after egg image shows up on folder, for some people it work by pressin X just when select menu pops up.
no, it doesn’t work for me, i am trying it over and over but nothing happens. it always restarts but with no effect. no stripes, no squares after every restart i remove memory stick, then i switch the psp on then i put in the memory card, and again the same way to photo, waiting 3 seconds but no effect i dont know how many tries i did this. i dont know what i am doing wrong. i watched some videos on youtube and there it loaded after max. 2 tries and i was doing it just the same way.
and i cant find any part of tutorial with “Remove the h.bin and egghund.bin manually” and i dont have any egghund.bin folder in my psp because in the rar file there wasn’t any, i just installed it and it copied h.bin into my psp memory card…..
omg i got that chickhen people, yea… but i did it a little bit different way than in the tutorial. i wasn’t i reapeat i wasn’t doing any reboots or memory card removing or 3-4 seconds waiting all you have to do is
Photo -> Memory Stick -> ChickHEN -> Open (try it fast) -> and very fast scroll down to the last picture ,,slim” if it doesnt work try it again, only 2 tries were necessary to load the chickhen this way.
i have only one question. i have to put my psp only into a sleep mode and whaz about those files? h.bin, slim etc. can i remove them now from my memory stick? or are they necessary for working?

Yes PSP 3000 can be hacked.. about problems.. you need to have patience ..
live example: read all the Neon4 comments and finally he succeeded in loading chickHEN after more than 50 tries.
If you are newbie, i suggest you read the tutorial and comments multiple times before trying anything on your PSP 3000.

yes i tried it, it works 100% guarantee, now i have about 4 ISO and one CSO games in my memory card and it’s working very good, much better than UMD (faster, more battery energy etc.) but i dont understand the difference between CSO and ISO only that CSO games have much less MB

do it step by step as it’s written in the tutorial after you have it fully hacked DO NOT remove those h.bin or egghound.bin files from your psp or any other files you put there while hacking it. iam not sure if its being there is necessary for working but if it works with those files in it why should you remove them?

is it 5.3 version or 5.03 version? if it’s 5.3 version you’re very unlucky because version 5.3 is not hackable still and you have to wait till some hacking team will realease some programmes. the 5.03 version is the latest hackable version of psp

1.) install 5.03 update – tutorial(you already have it so forget about the step one)
2.) install chickhen – tutorial
3.) hack your psp with 5.03 GEN-A hack stuff
resort = now you can play all ISO/CSO downloaded games, install some homebrew (very useful fan made) applications
note = you must not switch the psp off, just put it into sleep mode or you’re risking breaking your psp

no, you dont have to wait, actually i hade psp with firmware 2.60 and i had to upgrade it by myself trough downloading it from the internet, it’s easy, original firmwares are from SONY developers and they recommend to keep updating your psp. it’s like windows update but for your psp
5.3 is newer than 5.03

yes iam solving the same problem, you just have to pay attention on your battery status, if it runs out of power and after charging you restart it, you’re in the ***hole

i dont know what firmware is pre-installed for new psp 3000 from sony. i know it was 2.60 in winter this year, but the newest firmware now is 5.50 i guess. there’s a chance of downgrading to older version but iam not sure if it’s possible for the new firmwares (same problem as hacking) or you need to wait till it gets hacked

magicgate unknown = DO NOT INSTALL ANY HACKING PROGRAM it’s written in the top of the tutorial, please read carefuly, just buy another card with magicgate supported (sandisk, sony etc.)
downloading 5.03 gen is not enough, you have to install official firmware 5.03, then install chickhen then install 5.03 gen-a full, it’s written in the tutorial (hey man are you joking me?) please read carafuly

You want to risk your precious PSP getting bricked with the fake memory card
. Just get a new original one dude. Sandisk is preferred as they are 30-40% cheaper than original sony pro duo cards and perform almost equal, they are specially made for sony products by Sandisk and comes in a sealed package, under no circumstances you should go for opened memory card. Even if you are going for Sony only go for sealed package.. one more thing chances of getting a fake sony is more than chances of getting fake sandisk

The newer models will have the latest firmware, go to some shops having old stock of PSP and get it,anything below 5.03 will do. The newer models might be hacked but it might take another 4-6 months and its not a guarantee that they will be hacked as sony is fixing the loopholes with every upcoming firmware.

you can know that only after opening the PSP and going to settings->system info
you should ask the shop from where you are getting the psp, they know these things, just don’t order any latest model and make the sure the date of import is a little old.
mine month of import was july 2009 and it was with firmware 5.01

read the tutorial carefully, you must not switch your psp off with 5.03 GEN-A hack, it will cause restart of psp system and your hack will be lost, you may also break your psp this way

if psp restarts and your hack is lost then do it this way
Format Memory Card -> Then install all those hacking files again and follow the tutorial again
ChickHEN = Photo -> Get fast to chickhen folder -> fast scroll down to the last picture ,,slim”
if it doiesnt work at the first try then do it again it took me 3 tries this time
don’t forget to reset you settings after formating!!!! (Restore default settings)
don’t forget also to swithch UMD auto start and umd cache OFF after formating!!!!
you can save some of your data before formating of course by copying it to the computer etc…

hmmm…i’ve done modifying my friends psp but the problem is it can run a cso file….when i compare my psp and my friends psp i check the system information instead of 5.03 M33 in my psp while the other is 5.03 GEN-A (full)… do you think that’s the reason y it can’t run any .cso file?????

yes it works if you do it correctly, side effects? maybe that you must not switch your psp off or your hack will be lost but there aren’t any other side effects.
just ensure you have psp 3000, memory card with magicgate support and 5.03 official firmware and there wouldn’t be any problems

i dont understand your problem, you mean that your psp has 5.03 m33 CFW? it can be the reason, you can not run some games on 5.03 m33 and are you sure you have enabled your UMD ISO MODE – M33 driver
(press select in main menu of psp)

i need to allow some plugins in recovery menu, it’s easy to do that and putting plugins into psp is easy as well but there’s a little problem
1. you can run plugins only with CFW
2. you need to REBOOT/RESTART your psp to load in recovery menu while the psp is starting
3. 5.03 GEN-A is lost after rebooting so there’s no CFW anymore.
i need help how to put some plugins into my psp and make them working and also keep my CFW.
some recovery menus exist which aren’t usually started while rebooting but can be started in XMB menu as a homebrew application but i cant find any plugins allow button there. or is it just so simple that i cant run plugins with 5.03 GEN-A CFW ?

i have followed the procedure but it did’t worked out for me so after 10 tries i googled more and found that:
1] PHOTOS folder should contain at least 10 or more images along with the main .tiff image; all other images can be jpg files.
2] After going into Photos->Memory Stick wait for at least 20 seconds even if you see the small thumbnail icon on chickHEN folder wait…..
3] after waiting for say 20 secs X click on chickHEN folder where the images are.
4] thats it! as soon as u click on chickHEN folder the screen goes green & ur psp will reboot with chickHEN R2
i tired it on my PSP-3004 with ver 5.03 just yesterday.
but now the problem is i have turned the psp off at night; and this morning the hack is gone and i have tried the above steps exactly but failed to get chickHEN again.
i think this chickHEN R2 is very UNSTABLE.
either we need to recode the .tiff & h.bin file (i don’t know how??) or we need to find any other alternative Custom Firmware Enabler.
does anyone know how can i edit .tiff file code & .bin file because if opened in wordpad it shows only binary characters & symbols so can’t edit like that.
please suggest some alternative for chickHEN.

okay i read ur tutorial and i am just wondering what u have done to the psp is possible.
but my limited knowledge of psp tells me this is only a temporary way. by that i mean that if you shut of ur psp or it runs out of power you will have to do this all over again ( the hacking). in order for this hack to work you will have to keep the psp on at all times

yea, it’s possible to happen, it’s because of unstability of 5.03 gen-a custom firmware, i played for example prince of persia revelations and my psp just restarted it’s because your falsh memory is just ,,flashed” with 5.03 cfw and not temporary re-installed like some other m33 cfw. so your flash memory can freeze because it need to count operations for psp and then reoperate them into 5.03 cfw – then your psp reboot

it doesn’t matter how many pictures are there and slim picture must be in TIFF format it doesnt work otherwise and your psp will probably brick
just try it again
and if you read or see somewhere some advices like wait 20 seconds or it must include 10 pictures, it’s just bullshit
the faster you will be doing that the faster you will get your hack back

i don’t know why but yesterday night i tried the process again & i got the key to work it up with 100% success.
here what i have done
1]I have total 7 files inside PSP\PHOTO folder including slim.tiff file.
2]other 6 files are just plain jpg files with 480×272 resolutions and names like blue.jpg, red.jpg, green.jpg etc. and contains only plain color as data.
3]Note that i put them immediately at PSP\PHOTO and not in another chickHEN folder inside PSP\PHOTO as such.
4]also check size of slim.tiff mine is 283KB and h.bin is 29.1KB
5]another important thing i come to know that when u restart the psp after failure the previous ram data is’t cleared hence chances of success reduced further so i turned psp complete OFF by holding Power button for few secs.
6]then i turned psp ON again & as soon as i go to Photos->Memory Stick and clicked X it just kicked in blazingly fast & rebooted with ChickHEN R2. No waiting required.
7]so the only way to get success is but clearing ram first(every time by turning PSP complete OFF & back ON) before attempting the fresh try.
8]once u loaded with chickHEN R2 don’t turn OFF the psp, insted keep it in sleep mode by quickly sliding power button once. so that chickHEN will remain in RAM.
9]even if ur chickHEN is erased u can start fresh.
and remember point[7] always clear RAM before fresh try.
thats it.

those chickhen files must be separated, only chickhen files can be put together with no other images, that’s why they are in chickhen folder, you’ve done it but you put only chickhen files together to photo and no other. hackers that were doing this software were counting with some galleries that users will have…..

if it shows 5.03 after hacking it means you haven’t done anything right man….. don’t forget you must not switch your psp off, just put it into sleep moe otherwise you’re risking loss of your hack

GAME -> LOADER-INSTALLER (X it) -> continue by installer advices, it says – push leftt or right button (those two on the top of PSP) after flashing that push O and that’s it, if your psp is rebooting afterr doing this it probably is because you’ve done mistake somewhere before the last step or just your PSP has bad motherboard or you don’t have magic-gate support on your memory stick, read the requierments (always fuck up that spelling…)
some PSPs are not hackable, it depends on your motherboard version, software version etc.
I am sure my PSP2006 able to hack as I did visited a PSP shop and they charge me $30.00 for 3 times hack. Apparently, I left one more time to go so I decided to try out myself. Not sure why when I did the last step it just dont re-boot instead of shunting down.

hmmm….my system information software is 5.03GEN-A(FULL) but still i can’t run a CSO games…the games shows but when i try to run it says “the game could not be started”(80020321) that’s shows on the screen… is there something missing or do i have to do something in the root menu ??? please guys if anyone who face this kind of problems and resolved it please share your ideas…

hey man that’s normal, the only thing you have to do is press select in your xmb menu. it show new menu, especially for 5.03 gen-a custom firmware called GEN VSH MENU, you can operate with this cfw menu to set your cfw up. there you will see UMD ISO MODE so change it to M33 driver and that’s it

i wasn’t able to follow what u just answer to my last comment çoz i already hand over my psp’s friend but what i did was to make the CSO files run without changing in the VSH menu i just keep any UMD to trigger all the save CSO games and it works…hmmm just my experimentation and im glad that it works…..
next time i’l modify i’l follow what u told me to do in VSH menu if i have a 5.03GEN-A(FULL) system information..

This worked for me in the first try – copy the h.bin file from the root of your memory card to the chickhen folder and then try to go to the fifth file in your chickhen folder !! Thnx a lot, It was a great tutorial.

just put GEN-A FULL that allows to play CSO/ISO games.
piece of cake.
make sure u have 5.03GEN-A(FULL) installed.
Now follow these steps:
1] Just Create the ISO folder on root of Memory stick e.g.G:\ISO where G is drive letter.
2] Now copy the game’s CSO/ISO file to ISO folder only.
No need for separate CSO folder as such.
3] access the GEN-A’s VSH menu by pressing SELECT button and change the UMD ISO Mode to M33 Driver.
4] Thats it No need to reboot. just go back to Games->Memory stick and select any game u want. it shows some preview image/music associated with the game upon selecting it & just click X it will open the ISO/CSO game.
If u still get error then most probably your ISO/CSO file is bad so get a good working copy & retry.
Easy & Cool OK……

there is no difference between games on psp 2000 and psp 3000, it’s the same, only thing that really matters about playing games is firmware, you ca not play for example some games on formware 1.50 and so on
is it possible to revert back to official firmware 5.03 after its hacked?

found a better way to start chickhen r2 on psp. Just restore your settings from the system information.Once its done, go to the photo menu -> mem card -> and wait til the first box shows the egg picture on it and den open it. It worked for me in a jiffy!! no waiting anymore!! iv tried this 2 times and it worked well the same way…

iam not sure, you could try to change your umd mode, or some of these games are working just with chickhen, nor with gen-a. i have loads of homebrew applications which are in pbp format with eboot file and i have them in GAME folder and they just work fine. try to put them to GAME -> File called homebrew for example and in that file will be that eboot file, like homebrew app. put it into separated file into game, not into iso

I got this tutorial to work on my psp 3003. I played games and had a good time. BUT, my psp ran out of battery, so I had to restart it, then I was about to install chickhen r2 again, so I followed the guide, deleted egghund.bin and h.bin, then I ran henslimversion.exe, followed the steps. My PSP just went black, so I turned it on and went for another try to install chicken r2, this time my psp went black again, but I can not turn it on again. When I press the slider down to hold, the hold LED light is on, but I can not turn my psp on.
I fear that I might have broken my psp, but I pray that I have not.
Please, can someone help me. :’-(

i think you have messed with some firmware of psp so it is not booting.
may be you try this turn psp OFF;remove battery; remove memory stick;UMD(if any);put it that way for say 5-10mins
then put the battery back in psp;Do’t put memory stick now;
just try to turn ON the PSP if it is still that same problem as you mentioned then your psp might have been bricked. u have to take it to sony’s repair centre for flashing EPROM & restoring firmware.

Charge your PSP for 1-2 hours and try restarting again… if it still doesn’t boot, then it might have bricked take it to sony service center as @abhijit mentioned.
I will try your advices. But I think that in the end it will be necessary for me to send it back to where I bought it.

First of all thanks for this awsome tutorial despite the fact I haven’t hacked my psp 3004 yet… Before I’m actually going to hack my psp I want to have the following clarified; Is it true that I need my psp on standby continuously to not execute step 2 after a shutdown?? Or is there a way to have my psp permanently hacked with the possibility to shut it down? Thanks in advance and great work dude!

dude please read all post before asking questions……
this tutorial clearly mentions that it is in RAM only and actual firmware of PSP is not tampered unless you do some nasty things. since all RAM data is rewritten on every reboot so the hack is also removed on reboot and you need to rehack it & to avoid this u must keep ur psp in sleep mode always.
now if u want any permanent solution(if any available) u search google but i think this is the most safest method without voiding with ur PSP’s warranty. so follow exact steps;have tons of patience and u will succeed.

after i have the chickhen r2 installed on my psp, is it possible for me to delete those egg pictures from the photos menu and also will i be able to put photos in it after the psp is hacked?

if u successfully installed chickhen r2 then u can either delete the egg pictures or move them along with the tiff file containing hacking code to some different folder.
since hack is already copied into the PSP’s RAM.
it is better to move files in separete folder than to delete it; because if u required to hack psp then u need to copy those files from pc to psp again.
I feel completly lost
I can’t upgrade my firmware from 5.01 to 5.03, I don’t have a clue how to do it, the easy installer that is provided seems to not work for me at all, when it wants me to connect my PSP3004 it won’t find it, I tried to reconnect and connect, I found the “EBOOT.PBP” tried to just put on my PSP’s root. So someone plz help me! How do i upgrade my firmware?

Well do this method :
1.) check if your battery is fully charged
2.) connect the psp to the power supply
3.) now connect the psp to the computer
4.) after its connected, open the folder called ‘PSP’
5.) in that open the folder called ‘game’
6.) in the game folder, make a new folder ‘UPDATE’
7.) in the update folder, place the eboot.pbp file
8.) once its done, disconnect the psp from the computer
9.) on the psp, go to game menu and access the mem stick
10.)you will find the update app, open and follow the
instructions

You can recharge your psp battery without any problems but never let it fully drain or you will loose the hack and you have to hack it again.

i have done these steps and i have now created an iso folder in the root of the memory card and put iso/cso games there but when i run them it shows an error THE GAME COULD NOT BE STARTED (80020148). the umd iso mode has already been set to M33 Driver .. wat shud i do plzz help me out.

Have u hacked PSP properly is your Syetem Summary showing
“5.03 GEN-A (FULL)” and Do u have ISO folder on Root of PSP e.g. G:\ISO where G is drive letter. and copy all your ISO/CSO files in that ISO folder only.
now go to Games->Memory Stick and Select Game it will load that game.
If still you are getting error then your game’s ISO/CSO image is corrupt download fresh copy and redo the procedure.

U have everything right on your psp. One of the main reason for you not getting the game to work is because the game must be a new one which needs a firmware of 5.55 which as of now it cannot be played on the hacked psp 3000 series. You got to wait for till another hackable app which will allow you to play such games. GI Joe and other new games need 5.55. So make sure of what firmware are they playable and then download them.

actually after posting my problem here i read the comments on the site from which itook the game. and it is the same reason as u hav mentioned the games wont work coz of the firmware and it was also mentioned there that the new cfw will soon be out. and the other games except for the latest ones r working perfectly fine. also by mistake once my psp went off so i ran chickHen and installerloader again and it was back in place

You have to remove the chickhen r2 files and install it once more. then, put the gen-a app and flash it. if it didnt work out, instead you use custom firmware enabler 5.60.. it works better…

hey try connecting your psp with another usb cable. most of the time its the cable problem. you myt hve the fake one which may not work properly. Try searching a usb cable with type B.

The following is what I’ve learned for the past few days after buying a PSP 3000.
For PSP 3000 (brite) use only GEN-A or CFWEnabler. Using tools designed for previous models, like PSP 1000 or PSP 2000 will result in a brick. DO NOT flash themes or use Dark Alex’s tools. That too will result in a brick. Currently there’s no way to unbrick a PSP.
If you are going to buy a new PSP from grey market then search for PSP 2000 as those people still got some of these in stock. These devices can be permanently modded (the custom firmware stays even after you shutdown your PSP). Besides you can do crazy stuffs with them and you don’t have to worry about a brick as they can be unbricked using Dark Alex’s universal unbricker (PSP 3000 not supported). You won’t get them if you buy legal as sony have discontinued the production and have replaced them with PSP 3000.
Buy original PRO DUO. Fake PRO DUOs are sometimes slow and graphic intensive games tend to hang in them frequently (personal experience).

One food for thought : If you have cracked your psp, please turn it on atleaset once a day, if you leave it on stand by for more than 2 days, it automatically shuts down so you need to start it againt.
I was so annoyed that I bought GTA Vice city UMD the other day. The only concern is what if i brick ma psp.

if u have 5.03GEN-A(FULL) system just go to game memory din press select button of ur psp it displays the vhs menu din change the umd-iso to m33….din exit…

Hi guys my English is not very good but i will try my best.
after two weeks i finally hacked my psp3004 by using the same tutorial and i have also tried it several times and it worked.
at the first i also coudn´t lunch chicken2 like so many people here but finally i figured it out.
most people when they want to install chickenR2 at first they format their memory card and then restore system settings but first must the system settings be restored and then the memory card must be formatted.
and then by using EZ503HenSLIMversion.exe can you easily install chicken R2 and then custom firm ware and that will definitely work.
i hope it works.
This is really good. The hack works but the step 2 is really painful and very time consuming. Also I found another way of doing step 2, rather than manually deleting the bin files and redoing everything from your computer.
When you open the Photos –> Memory –> ChickHEN —> Press X, the last picture should display “? [unsupported data]“. If it is not [and if it still displays "SLIM"] then your PSP hangs and you need to redo from step 2 onwards. Now instead of doing this you can just reboot your PSP by removing the battery slightly and putting it back [this works faster than the long press for the power switch].
Keep doing this until you see the ? in the last picture. Once you get the ?, then you can go to the next step of executing the CFW loader with an “O” option.

Well what wud have happened is that your software that helps you to extract zips or rar files wud hve accidently extracted the cso or the iso file. nowadays most of the compression softwares accept cso, iso files and so on. So that cud be a reason. Lemme knw if u find any more problems..

Buddy I am using psp-3004 and its official firmware is already 5.01 but still I have used the update software of 5.01.I have installed the chickenhen folder containing 5 images and I have installed cfw 5.01.I am facing problem in launching chickenhen whenever I open that folder my psp freezes and turns off.

so if you have updated your psp, the firmware should be 5.03. Once its 5.03, you can start the hacking process..
First of all, restore the psp settings
Then format the mem card through the psp and not from the computer.
Once formatted, connect the psp to the computer.
open chickhen r2 app ‘EZ503HenSLIMversion’. Install chickhen.

Once done, disconnect the psp from the computer.
Reboot your psp. Then go to photo -> mem card -> chickhen box -> go straight down til you reach slim.tiff and wait. Mostly the first try will not work, wait for it to reboot on its own, and try it once more till you see a green flash for a second and it reboots.. your chickhen is installed. to confirm, go to system settings and chk system info and you should find ‘5.03 Chickhen R2′…
Guys I found this way in one of You tubes. It should work 99% to activate PSP in ChickHEN mode. Probably this procedure should be put to replace step2 up there as a lot of people will not make to reach this far (bottom of the thread).
First as mentioned by Shashank, you need to have Original Sony Pro Duo memory stick or Sandisk Pro Duo memory stick.
Step2: Press O to disconnect from USB mode and go to PHOTO -> Memory stick->ChickHEN -> Press X (and keep pressing X, don’t let go) at the same time quickly press down arrow and keep pressing both keys -> PSP will boot in ChickHEN R2 mode.
easiest way to regain psp files even if u have a fake memory card
dear all . first i would like to thank each and everyone of those who posted the different methods to help .
i would like to inform u that i found an easier way than those posted .
it is as follows :
1- turn psp on then go to usb conection.
2-delete h.bin and egghunt.bin .
3-go to tools/ folder options /view / click on show hiden files and folders then press ok .
4-delete all the hidden folders if any is found .
5- go to files folder and delete all its content .
6- go to psp folder then photo folder and delete chicken folder . then go to system folder and delete isocache.bin file.
7- then apply steps two and three that are posted above on the website .
notice that when u use this method u will be able to reboot with chicken from the first time .
hope it works out for u cause it is working like a sharm here.

I have mot updated my psp to 5.03 it is 5.01 and it full fills the requirments for the cfw to be installed and I have tried all these methods as you have told above but nothing is happening.I first had another cfw installed by a local shop near my house but it got deleted so now I have installed a cfw from this website but I am not able to launch the chicken r2

Great idea. I tried it by pressing the downarrow alongwith the X and it works. No need to now keep trying 20-30 times.
Now need a solution so that the software does not go off when the PSP is restarted and there is no need to always keep it in standby mode only.

After trying for around 20-30 times and searchng the internet I found one simple way of installing ChichHEN
1) Follow step 1, 2
2) then if you are facing any problem just delete all the .gif files from PSP/PHOTO directory
3) go back to Photo->MemoryCard->Chicken->and press X
4) it works in first attemp

no probs dude.. ok see.. the chickhen part of it is the irrititating part of all. As i told you u have to keep on trying. It can be 30 tyms too.. Still try. Bt to make it easier, v found out many tricks to make it fast, bt dat again depends on how you go about it.. so the best method i cud put forward to you is dat, restore your settings, format the mem stick, install the chickhen in dat and try loadin it on psp the same way iv told u before..and i find it much safer… or else your psp is jst one step away frm bricking.. and it cannot be recovered..

When you press X while at Chicked [5 Images], keep it pressed then immediately press the down arrow key and keep both the keys pressed. The system wil show some sort of flash on the screen and will reboot automatically. You are done. If this does not happen in the first go, then try it again. Generally it works the secodn time.

Why did u reboot the psp??? it is already mentioned never to reboot your psp as your hack will be erased, instead you shud keep ur psp on standby mode. That is one of the basic rules once a hack is being put on the psp 3000 series.. Since you have rebooted, you got to re install the hack once more. Then as for your query about the game, well ‘Up’ is a new game which will only accept 5.55 firmware and above which presently all the hacked psp 3000 series cant play. So to play it, you got to decrypt the game and play. There is a comment i have written on how to decrypt the game.. do chk.. or else wait for a new hack to come…

Well if i give u a list of games.. its goin to be long. gi joe, up, soul calibur and all that are new and it needs to b decrypted.. the games that were released b4 those games are playable without decryption.. chk gamespot.com for the list of games and its releases…

well.. what hve u got.. still stuck with those sys dir and usr dir folders.. well.. as i said u wud hve opend d cso or d iso file unknowingly since one of ur compression softwares recognize that particular extension. or if u got the game with only thse folders, den der r least chances that it may work. u got to get d game frm sum other source and download again.

Well ppl with better/in depth understanding of working of PSP had atleast done and come so far to get atleast these methods. You should appreciate them. Chickhen basically is trial error method. it can be done in many ways coz its not a stable application. you mess with it, it messes with you i.e getting your PSP bricked…

well i dont know why u guys been trying it so many times with that chichenr2 stuff..as given in the tutorial dont scroll down to the last slim image or whatevr..when u open photo->chichen..just leav it der guys dont scroll down its gonna reboot 1st tym itself..i have done this in 5 psp’s till now and its worked for the first try itself..
and whoevr s got the problem with launch-me.exe while installing custom firmware(step 3): if u getting a error msg then its simple u have to install 3.5 .net framework mates..no other reason..its free to download from microsoft itself..cheers

my current mc is sony pro duo, but in mc info /from PSP triangle button/ it does not recognise magic gate. still is able to load chicken. with multiple tries..
follow steps properly, format mc-reset defaults-umd stuff off-restart PSP& continue chicken-effort at lest 25 times. /try removing umd if any./
I am running 4 games n a couple of operations on the above mentioned mc.

Please ensure the following points before you go off to playing games.
#1. Check that you have installed
GEN-A (Full) OR
M33 ..
in short a custom FW that enables/supports ISO/CSO play. ( that is after the chicken step..)
#2. Then, when you boot in CFW, press and change the UMD mode to ISO mode/M33 driver/SonyNPXXX, whixh enables the PSP to read the ISOs in the ISO in ROOT folder..
#3. Copy Paste the ISOs/CSOs you have in ISO folder in MS ROOT
#4. You may face trouble if format is anything else than ISO/CSO,
TRy to get ISO/CSO and verify the source..
#5. Put the ISO/CSO in the ISO folder only..
IF you have EBOOT.PBP file, that should go in the GAME folder inside the PSP folder..
Follow these and 99% should get you going..

Basically i got my psp to have ChickHEN 5.03 R2 from the site u guys mentioned but after that i downloaded this PS 5.03 custom firmware and get to Launch Me part and i fill in all the requirements. My Psp comes to G so i put G and it said done. So then i wait 4 20 seconds but when i go to games to start the installer loader all i get is Corrupted Data.
Maybe after having ChickHEN 5.03 R2 theres a step im supposed to do? because in the last folder which i downloaded theres stuff like GEN.PBP which i dint extract to the PSP and also when i check my PSP folder i find that i have GAME, GAME5XX AND GAME150 and i have MP root not MS root…. i hope i explained my problem well =) oh and yes i am a noob but i really wanna get this workin

till date afaik, chicken has to be “done”.
relax, don’t panic..
double check the chick steps, you can redownload chicken from another source, _i was also very annoyed, for 2-3 days.. read, n least try 25+times at a sitting ! you should get it!

yes you are right on the part that you need to do ‘Something’ more!!
if the software does not do it for you, you do it yourself!!
when you extract the files copy them as they are and paste in msroot.. so,
there will be some files on root of PSP, n some files in a folder, then you should see the installer loader..
check n revert..

after that, press L
then press O button to start in cfw..
DO NOT press L/R again.. that may brick ur PSP, just press once..

Thats good, try to use another Chicken version..
that EZ503HenSLIMversion is fine too..
Just make sure that the source is verified..
..so you wont waste your time on something that is wrong in the first place..

If Yes, please tell how did you do it! cause hacking USA version both 3004 and 3000 is very easy to hack with Chicken R2 not the UK version. Its been months I tried to hack one UK based PSP 3003 ( with CFW 5.03 off-course).
Also, referring to other forum, Chicken R2 could break your PSP 3003 (UK version) forever. Is it true you cannot hack UK based PSP?

i have psp 3004 that came with OFW 5.03,now i have CFW 5.03 MHU.When i try to start .cso games i get a black screen and the psp shuts off .some cso’s do play but soon they too freeze (while trying to save game or load a previously saved game) and my psp shuts off.

hi i have tried many times now step 1 and to where pretty easy but im a swed so my english isn’t that good =P i had problems with the psp unit drive code and i didn’t know what it ment but know i know and finnaly the sign ”done” came up, I waited 20 seconds. No need to restart your console more than 5 times , if it happens then remove your Memory stick and insert a diff memory stick and then again switch and try flashing.
Orelse the step which always work’s for me on 2gb MMC is JUST REMOVE THE BATTERY OF YOUR PSPAND PUT IT BACK AND TRY IT , AND IT ALWAYS BOOTS IN FIRST ATTEMPT

To overcome the error of 80020321 while playing any ISO games, you need to have an UMD game disk in your PSP. It does not matter what game it is of, but a game disc. It has to be an UMD game disk, and not a UMD video disk.

Now I can open the Lunch-Me.exe, I installed .NetFrame, and my next problem is when I press start on the PSP-CWF GUI with the correct selection and drive. the extracted files extracted at its own directory where the Lunch-me.exe is located. and nothing extracted on my memstick of my PSP. what do you think is the problem guys??

u can play gi joe, but not the new tekken 6 as it plays only on 6.20 firmware… no decrypter has been released to patch 6.20 games…

THIS FOR SURE WILL WORK!
1. delete ALL the images from folders ms0:\PSP\PHOTO, ms0:\PICTURE\.
2. delete the h.bin & egghunt.bin from ms0 (root of the mem-card) if there were any.
3. extract from the archive the h.bin file into the mem-card root (ms0:\h.bin)
2. extract the Slim.tiff in the folder ms0:\PSP\PHOTO (so it’s seen: ms0:\PSP\PHOTO\ChickHEN\slim.tiff )
3. Switch off the console.
4. Switch it on again & go to the “PHOTO”-menu & choose the Mem-stick (Without opening the ChickHEN folder).
5. For the 1st time the console may freeze & shut down.
If it did freeze & shut down – switch it on again & go to the “PHOTO”-menu & choose the Mem-stick (Without opening the ChickHEN folder).
6. You should see the glitch, then the screen will turn green and the console will restart itself & boot into HEN.

Hi, guys! There is a simple solution to the chickhen random proper boot problem. I found it on youtube, you have to set the theme colour of your psp to the 3rd green, and then try to go to PHOTO -> Memory stick->ChickHEN directory and scrool down fast to the tiff file and wait for it. It worked for me 7 times out of 8. If you get that time when it doesn’t workes reset the theme colour to some other colour, restart PSP and set back to the 3rd green.
Otherwise the tutorial works well, just follow the steps.
And there is an other thing, not all games work, only if you patch the eboot.bin file from inside your iso with to appz, GameZDecryptZ and UMDGen 4. Just google it.

An easier way to boot in custom firmware is to hold both the X button and the DOWN button simultaneously when selecting the Chicken

@Rajat: it is safer to keep the installation files coz if ure system gets hanged while playing u can reboot it again & this i have done a zillion times so trust me if u want to!! & the saved games have survived!!

I have another sort of problem,
My chickhen and gen- a works but after rebooting
in 5.03 gen-a firmware, in 10 sec my psp is starting
to be really slow and the screen is blinking, shaking and refreshing very slowly. Everything works 20 times slower and there is no way to turn on some game because of slow working of the psp. It seems to look like some memory problem same as having 1MB free space on PC. I`m using a original MSPD. Is there any option to format the psp internal memory.

u know u can save your all data on ur PSP card and no need to format the card again and again for hacking just ..you hav to use a small card of around 512 mb for hacking and other card for ur Data……currently i hack my PSP with 512mb card and that also in firlst go (Copy h.bin file in chickHen foderand if it doesnt work in first go just restart the psp and agin go to ChichHen folder it works sometyms)…so where was i …….yes now i hack my PSp with 512 card and i dont format my 8 Gb card as it very tym taking to copy all the data to and from PC …..

Allright my PSP is now hacked. I couldn’t use the chickhen gen a, cause it would brick my PSP. I used C. Works perfectly. A friend of mine that works in this kind of stuff said it to me so I did what he said and well he was right xD. Good thing i didn’t use Gen a, so I wasnt wreckless and didnt take any unecessary risks, right monkeyfmth? Safety first.

Someone moded my PSP and he leaved the chickHEN folder there.Trying to see what is in there i restarted my psp,but the folder is still there.I’m asking if i still need to erase those files.

some time ago I hacked my PSP using this tutorial.. Somehow the game got deleted and I need to hack it again from scratch..
At the very first step I get a problem:
- Download this 5.03 Firmware file >>> done!
- connect your PSP to PC in USB mode >>> done!
- Double click on downloaded exe file >>> done!

- It will copy firmware data EBOOT.PBP on your PSP >>> it does not do anything! Keeps saying “Connect your PSP to your computer”, although it IS connected..
I’ve already formatted the memory card, put it out and in again and stuff..

This hack is for 3004. Not sure if it will work on 2000 series. Shashank can comment on this.
If you are based in India you can go to any local electronic shop and get a hack for 2001 from them. This is a older version and was hacked earlier. The whole reason why Sony came with 3004 was because they were not able to sell any more games for 2000 series as everyone was playing free games…….hehehe

i had cracked my sony psp in a shop. i used to play games through memory card. but if charge goes off or i take battery out or psp restarts, i could not see any games in card. it says no games available. when i take to that shop he corrects in 5 mins without connecting to syatem. can i know how to do that. he is charging me a lot for that everytime.

I tried to use 5.50 gen c full on my PSP then I came to know that my mother board is TA-090 v2. I think that’s the reason all this cracks not workin on my psp.
I have OFW 5.03. Now I had applied 5.03 gen-C (full) on my PSP but still the games made on the year 2006 is not workin on my psp.

The crack gets uninstalled if the battery drains out or you switch the poswer off! However you can keep in stand-by!

i heard there is a way by which you can load chic hen in one try after its restarted or shuts down… ie by repeating step 2… you have to do something with the joy stick …. if any one knows about this … plz reply

i successfully recover my hack by this method …
first restore the factory setting
then when the psp is ON … set the charector set to US
UMD auto start set to off
UMD cache off
USB charge off
now switch off the psp ( not stand by )
when psp ON now go to the chickHEN
now you get the flash in one try …

I’ve encountered someone using a fake memory card using the hack, the problem is there is a high chance of crashing so you’ll have to do it all over again.
@ Richard try this press select, then select recovery menu, then select advance, then advanced configuration, then lastly select execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO to make it enabled. if it doesn’t work disable it again, there might be other problems. hahaha…

can i modify or downgrade my psp 3004 version 6.00 so as to play game with memory card ?????
To all anything above ver. 5.03 is un-hackable. there is still no way to downgrade above ver. 5.03.

I have a question???? i hack my sony psp 3003 after hack i play the games and some days later when it’s hang show the game folder there are no game data……… now what can i do please tell me……….
the file “LAUNCH ME.exe” was not executable
on my computer.

i agree with shashank..even the dumbest guy alive can easily crack psp3000.just read it down carefully,n do it for sure in one go..
->format ur memory card,n check 4 its originality.
->restore default settings
->remove n reinsert memory card
->restart ur psp
->turn off UMD autostart n UMD cache
->switch ur background color to 3rd green
->connect in usb mode
->run EZ503HenSLIMversion.exe ,files will be installed on ur psp..
->disconnect,go to photos->memory card->press X->wait for 5 seconds->now press X again n quickly scroll to the last image(tiff file)
->don’ click on any of the images
->ur psp will automatically restart in chickhen mode
->confirm it in system information.
->rest is as above

@ susan brother just open isohunt.com or thepiratebay.org and type the game name in the end type psp n download ur games using u torrent..
i agree wid kanishka even i have hacked more then 6 psp n every psp hacked in 1 or 2 go..
@manju ..hey just leve gen A n download GEn C n extract it n just put the gen c folder in the game folder in psp n open ur psp go to game memory stick n click on gec c cfw loader..n u are done!!
@ dever brother..just downlaod dotnet fx ver 2.0 or above then try launch me..or siply leve the third step and download GEN C ectract it and put the folder naming GEN C in ur psp mso:->psp->game then open ur psp go to game memory stick n run gen c cfw loader n u are done!! thnkzz

Shashank you it worked! it so friggin’ worked! i’d have to say, i was skeptical about the whole thing, but i just kept at it (particularly step 2, with the chickHen image) and it actually worked!
