In all earlier versions of Windows, every Hardisk’s partition comes with a drive letter and you can optionally set drive name as well. But in Windows 7 both drive letter and drive name are optional.

In Windows 7 you can hide/show default drive letters like C:, D:, E: etc. So now just give appropriate names to your drives and hide the drive letters. It looks better than before. Here’s how you can do this:-

  1. Go to Folder Options.
    hide-drive-letter1
  2. Select View Tab.
  3. Search for the checkbox Show drive letters and uncheck it. It must be checked by default.
    hide-drive-letter3

That’s it. You are good to go. From now on, only drive names will be visible and you successfully managed to get rid of those irritating letters.
