Latest ASUS 1000HE Netbook with N280 Processor

8 February 2009 By Ankit Duseja

Netbooks are getting regular upgrades but each upgrade is not so good to be called an upgrade. In some the looks are updated while in other certain features are touched. But no change was made to the configuration. The new ASUS Netbook has finally come up with a major upgrade. Its not having the same N270 processor nor the FSB is stuck at 533Mhz.

Asus 1000HE

1000HE is the new Netbook from Asus with 10 inch LED backlit display and the new N280 processor which clocks at 1.66Ghz and has FSB of 667Mhz. Though you won’t feel major difference, but for the regular browsing purpose and other light tasks it sounds helpful.

Asus 1000HE has a 92% sized keyboard with a new layout. The right Shift key has been placed where it should belong to. Asus boasts of delivering 8.7 hours of battery backup with integration of Super Hybrid Engine on a 6-cell battery. I am sure it will not be more than 7 hours in practical life.

For storage, Asus puts in a 160GB HDD with their 10GB online Eee storage. Another bounce on this netbook is that its wide trackpad support multi-touch gestures like zoom in and out and scrolling webpage with two fingers,  in Eee PC 1000H. It is also equipped with 1GB DDR2 RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Though Netbooks keep appearing in market and year 2009 would give even more choice to consumers, I still consider buying this one now as this configuration is going to last long in netbooks. And the other point that pulls my card out is the “Asus” brand.

1000HE Netbook is already available for pre-order for $399 at many stores shipping to US. No words for India and other parts yet.
