HTC Corp. has announced the introduction of the HTC S740, a slim, compact, and stylish smartphone that provides the perfect combination of a traditional 12-key phone design with HTC’s signature sliding QWERTY keyboard for optimal messaging. It features the striking styling seen on HTC’s Touch Diamond consumer phone, introduced earlier this year.
The S740 is designed to offer the most flexible and efficient messaging experience on the market. From the design of its 12-key keypad and full QWERTY keyboard, both input capabilities ensure efficient and accurate typing, as well as support for POP3, IMAP and Exchange push email. Instant messaging and SMS can also be accessed through the familiar 12-key interface on the front of the phone. Unlike the Diamond and the Touch Pro, the S740 has a non-touch display of 2.4 inches, 65K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard.
The S740 is the first of HTC’s compact slider phones with GPS capability, and ships with Google Maps to provide navigation. It also supports HSDPA mobile networks at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and has 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. The HTC S740 features the fastest mobile broadband capabilities with a maximum download speed of 7.2 Mbps, up to 18 times faster than 3G. It features a 3.2 Megapixel camera with fixed focus and video recording, front-facing camera for video calls, Pocket Internet Explorer, Pocket Office, Music and Video players, FM radio, RSS Hub, 256MB of flash memory and microSD card support. It weighs 140 grams and when its QWERTY keyboard is not slid, it measures 116.3 x 43.4 x 16.3 millimeters.
The phone is expected to be released in September. No details about the pricing is yet known.
