It looks like the 8 MP camera phones are going to become popular this year. Samsung is going to announce the i8510 which will be packed with a lot of multimedia features. It will be a Symbian-powered smartphone and will have more features than any other handset, even the N96.
In terms of design, it seems to be a mix between the 5 Megapixel G810 and the Soul U900, both of which are sliders, hence the new phone is also a slider and it looks pretty cool. Samsung i8510 will feature 8 Megapixel camera with auto focus, xenon flash and video recording at 120fps (in QVGA mode). Some other cool features of the Samsung i8510 include Wi-Fi and GPS, which also comes with assisted-GPS functionality for better cold start performance of the navigation services.For the music lovers, the i8510 will offer a 3.5mm standard audio jack which should also be capable of transferring 5.1 surround audio.
Its display will be a 16M color 2.8-inch QVGA one and the handset utilizes the Symbian 9.3 OS with S60 UI. The phone contains 128 MB RAM and there will also be a dedicated 3D graphics accelerator. No information regarding the CPU which is going to be used in the phone is available. It will also be capable of recording slow-motion videos in QVGA resolution at 120 fps. Along with this, it will also be DivX certified, meaning it will feature DivX playback. It will be available in 8GB and a 16GB versions. There will also be a microSD card slot for expanding it and improving the connectivity. Other options include USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0. The network data transfers are good to go via 3G with HSDPA support.
It will come with a powerful 1200 mAh battery that should be able to keep the smartphone alive for up to 6 hours in talk-time mode, and up to 280 hours in stand-by time. It will be released somewhere around mid August and will be available for around 780 Euro. With all the features, it sure might give existing phones a run for there money.
