ASUS Eee 1000H and 904H, Now Available in India : Review

The latest models of the popular creation from Asus, the Eee PC 1000H and 904H are now available in India. Asus EEE PC series has rewritten the way we used to see laptops, Asus Eee Laptops are compact, light on weight and heavy on features, aimed at youngsters, children, professionals. These are the kind of laptops that anyone can use with much ease, its available in a variety of colors with bundled Windows XP, and the most important thing which i like is the great battery life it supports. The latest 1000H has six cell battery which gives you a whooping 4-7 hours of productivity/entertainment time.

Lets check out the features of Eee 1000H :

Eee 1000H is different from its previous counterparts, they used to support the SSD HDD’s, this one supports a 80 GB Sata HDD from Seagate, here are the full specifications:

• Asus Connect: easy way to connect two or more users through a remote desktop feature for easy troubleshooting
• ASUS Super Hybrid Engine( 6 cell battery)for super battery backup upto 7 hours, real life test with Wi-Fi on gives a backup of 4.5 hours great isn’t it.
• 80GB storage space
• 1GB DDR2 RAM upgradeable upto 2 GB
• Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth
• Two in one card reader
• Dolby Surround Sound
• Intel UMA graphics support

The 904H model has 8.9 inch screen, .3 mp camera, other features being the same it does not have Wi-Fi 802.11n, Dolby Surround Sound, Bluetooth and has around 3.5 hours of battery life.

ASUS Eee 1000H and 904H are available at a price tag of Rs 29,990 and Rs26,990 respectively.

Pros and Cons of Eee 1000H(i am interested in this One)

Pros:

• Great battery backup upto 7 hours
• Wi-Fi 802.11n (future ready)
• Lightweight
• Fast and operative
• Doesn’t comes bundled with MS Vista
• Bluetooth and card reader

Cons:

• They are already getting on a variant Eee 1000HD
• Availability in India is a issue in itself
• There has been a price drop on 1000H by 100$ in the US and its now retailing there for around 550$( Rs 22,050), hope they decrease the price here too.
• Backlit keyboard buttons

Update 1:

I dialed a dealer at Nehru Place, Delhi for the availability of Asus Eee 1000H, he said it will take around 1 week for the model to become available in Delhi.

Update 2:

Asus just launched its first exclusive service center in Delhi, they also confirmed the availability of toll free helpline no. 1-800-2090-365 for ’sales, support and operator assistance’.

Update 3:

Asus Eee 1000H available in Delhi Nehru place for Rs 32,000 but its available online at Rs 28,079 at GadgetGuru .

I have dropped my plans of buying Asus Eee 1000H because it is highly overpriced in India, Acer Aspire One has a much similar configuration with 120GB HDD for Rs 22,000 and on 22nd August, Dell is releasing its much awaited Netbook 910 with similar configuration at a much better price of Rs 12,000

New price of Asus Eee 1000H in India has dropped to Rs 24,000, available at SMC International, Nehru Place, New Delhi

Update 5:

There is currently a promo going on, in which Asus Eee 1000H 160GB model is available at a discount price of Rs 26,000, freebies include Canon printer( MRP around Rs 1800) and Tata Tata Indicom Plug 2 Surf Whiz( price and details), however Eee 1000H 160 isn’t available without this offer.

Important Note : Asus Eee 1000H 160 GB version has 4 cell battery whereas Eee 1000H 80 GB version has 6 cell battery.
