Intel Working On Anti-Theft Technology for Laptops
Intel is working on a Anti-Theft laptop protection technology which would be capable of locking down the storage device and processor of the stolen computer when in wrong hands. The technology is still in its early phase but the company is confident that its ATT(anti-theft technology) will be the only of its kind innovation rendering the notebooks useless if stolen.
The details about the new technology are scarce and there is no live demonstration of the Anti-Theft Technology. However, according to Intel’s Mobility Group chief, Dadi Perlmutter, the new anti-theft system will try to physically disable the hardware components of the laptops that are booted without the proper credentials.
Intel said that the working sample of its anti-theft technology will be available in the fourth quarter of 2008 and it might come as a added feature in Centrino 2 platform.

I think the Finger Print recognition technology does the job well.
Biometric fingerprint is a more of a recognition technology rather than anti-theft technology one can format or change the hdd and can still use the laptop.
Well recently i heard ppl have managed to hack the biometric pen drive..
Lets wait and see how far this goes ?
