Microsoft’s Vista SP1 Release Candidate Available For Public Download

January 14th, 2008 by Shashank

Microsoft Vista SP1 RC Refresh is now available for a public download . The new SP1 RC Refresh is a near final version of the release candidate which was previously available to the 15,000 beta testers last week. Now the general public can also enjoy the latest update from Microsoft . The new update contains a collection of bug fixes and performance and compatibility improvements, but includes some minor new features.

To install the update it might be required to reboot the computer multiple times according to microsoft and all the previous versions of SP1 should be uninstalled before it can be replaced with Refresh.

After multiple rebooting, a period of an hour is required to allow the installer service to “clean up and complete the uninstall” to prevent possible installation errors. Those with Vista RTM need to install two to three updates, depending on their version of Vista, before they can welcome SP1 onto their computer.

Microsoft has also warned users that it “does not recommend installing this software on primary or mission-critical systems.” Memory hungry Vista really needs some big doses of bug fixes and performance boost to justify the transition from XP to Vista. Lets hope Vista to get a new life once a full and final Service Pack 1 for Vista becomes available in first quarter of 2008.
